Using an Ethical Deliberation Approach to Address the Ethical Challenges Related to the Enrollment of African Americans with Chronic Kidney Disease in US Health Registries
In the United States, African Americans’ enrollment in health registries is low. To promote health equity in registry’ s enrollment, we propose a study aiming to (a) identify ethical challenges related to the request and desire to be enrolled in registries, (b) organize ethical deliberation sessions in community meetings to address ethical issues community members have identified, and (c) develop a tool kit for a training program on ethical issues to sensitize academics and community members. Based on a community-based participatory research (CBPR) approach, this study will give prominence to community members and organizations to address the ethical challenges of African American participation in health registries.
