Disparities in Utilization of an Electronic Patient-Reported Outcome Measure (ePROM) in Kidney Care
Chronic kidney disease (CKD) causes significant symptoms which can impair quality of life; yet, patient-reported outcomes are not routinely assessed during kidney care. We integrated a CKD-specific electronic patient-reported outcome measure (ePROM) into electronic health records, aiming to implement the ePROM as a means to deliver person-centered care in nephrology. We are conducting mixed methods research to 1) evaluate associations of patient characteristics and social determinants of health with ePROM completion, and 2) study the impact of ePROM utilization on clinical care. This research will inform development of targeted interventions to promote ePROM utilization in care of potentially marginalized patient subgroups.
